Welcome to the home site of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, South Carolina
Chapter (SCAAIDD)!
"AAIDD promotes progressive policies, sound research, effective practices, and universal
human rights for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities."
In an effort to better represent the interests of individuals with the condition commonly
known as mental retardation, in January 2007 the American Association on Mental Retardation (AAMR) officially
changed its name to the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD). (For more
information, see this press
release on the name change and what it means for the intellectual disabilities community.)
This site is the response of the South Carolina chapter of AAIDD (formerly SCAAMR) to this name change. We've
redefined our look, changed our name, and moved to a new domain (scaaidd.org). Here you will find news, information,
and resources about serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in South Carolina. Follow the
links above to find information about our organization, our annual conference, training sessions, our relationships
with other organizations, and other resources. If you'd like to become a member of SCAAIDD, be sure to choose the
